Power Quality Analyzer Testing

It is the pressure being exerted by network agencies, network end customers and also distributed network operators that is driving forward the expansion of a seamless system for monitoring power quality in high and medium-high voltage networks. Class A PQ analyzers are used for this per IEC 61000-4-30. The IEC 61000-4-30 standard defines the methods of measurement and the interpretation of the measurement results. The basis for the assessment of power quality is the ability to determine it accurately. The regular testing and calibration of these devices presents manufacturers, commissioners and equipment maintenance personnel with new challenges.

The IEC 61000-4-30 standard describes all PQ phenomena that a PQ analyzer must be able to detect and classify. It is these phenomena that OMICRON’s CMC 256plus test system in conjunction with the software module "PQ Signal Generator" is able to reproduce with a high degree of precision. It provides every type of signal – from a flicker, through unbalance and harmonics, right up to transient short-time dips.

CMC 256plus - Protection Relay Test Set and Universal Calibrator

OMICRON’s CMC 256plus is not just one of the world’s leading test systems for protective relays; it is also a universal calibration tool. Equipped with the “PQ Signal Generator” software test module, the CMC 256plus is capable of precisely and reliably calibrating PQ analyzers with all voltage levels. Harmonics up to the 50th (2500 Hz for 50 Hz systems or 3 kHz for 60 Hz systems) is a prerequisite to be able to completely cover the measurement range stipulated in the standard for class A devices. The CMC 256plus copes with this requirement in the same way as the issue of modulated flicker signals in the millihertz range.
