Conventional tests on electrical power transformers can detect many critical problems before they cause bigger damage. By testing the transformer ratio (per tap) shorted windings can be identified. Measuring the winding resistance (per tap) allows finding bad connections, e.g. carbonized contacts. Mechanical changes can result in changed load losses and leakage reactance results or a changed short circuit impedance.
